Can you create a program in for example, Visual Basic, or Visual C#/C++ and sell it to the market? maybe $1? Payment via paypal? What do you think? Any good ideas for the $1 software?

Lots of things that would sell for a buck. The problem is that paypal will cost between $0.35 and $0.40. If you use ebay etc to advertise the software you run into additional costs. I think that most people that would pay $1.00 for a program would pay $3.00.
Good luck!
Reply:Sure, you can do that.
keep in mind that paypal charges you money for the transaction. i don't know how much, maybe between 5 to 15%.
also, if it takes you 2 full-time weekends (4 days) of work - that's 32 hours - to write the screensaver, you need to sell 320 licenses to have an average salary of 10$ per hours. Which means that if you work for McDonalds, you get roughly the same money. Also, selling 320 licenses is difficult, even if it's cheap.
So either charge for your software what it's worth, or give your software away for free. But selling for 1$ won't make you happy nor rich.
just my 2c
Reply:Anything you create with VB is royalty free so , Yes you can.
Ideas? What about topical screen-savers with visual effects - easy to create a template but allow for a lot of creative input and variations on the same theme.
Reply:You can use these languages to create marketable software.
For a $1 software, simple things like a converter, screen saver, a little widget to read RSS feed from a site... unlimited options :)
Happy computing.
